Our Father in Heaven,

We have often felt like the prophet Habakkuk, living among the rampant wickedness in his nation:

O Lord…why do You show me iniquity, And cause me to see trouble?

For plundering and violence are before me; There is strife, and contention arises. Therefore the law is powerless, And justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore perverse judgment proceeds. (Habakkuk 1:2a,3-4)

Lord, thank you for a turn back towards justice with this decision! We echo the praise in Psalm 103:6,

“The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.”

Thank you for working through many people to bring about this decision. We pray for continued adherence to the rule of law founded on your principles rather than the opinion of man that changes with the times.

We continue to pray for those who are deceived into believing abortion is a right—may your conviction and lovingkindness lead them to repentance, as you did for many of us.

For those whose hearts ache because they or a loved one have had or participated in abortions, we pray that they will know forgiveness, mercy, healing, and peace. Help us be even more bold in proclaiming your gospel—that salvation comes through faith in Jesus, who “Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the wrongdoers.” (Isaiah 53:12)

Sovereign Lord, today we reaffirm our commitment to protecting innocent babies and ministering to their mothers. We praise you for those who are following the example of the early church, who often rescued babies rejected by their own culture. Protect and strengthen every pregnancy resource center against numerous attacks, and add more laborers to this life-giving ministry.

Father, last year we prayed that if it was your will to shift the responsibility of defending life to the state governments, you would find us faithful in those arenas. That time has finally come.

Even though abortion is no longer mandated across the country, the legal murder of preborn children continues in many states. In upcoming elections, help all who hold Judeo-Christian principles to make wise and godly decisions as we vote on the candidates and propositions on our ballots.

Finally, Lord, continue to give us perseverance, character, and hope in you. It has been a long journey to this point, and it will likely be a long journey to the point where abortion becomes unthinkable in our nation.

Like John Quincy Adams, who faithfully labored to abolish slavery until the day he died, may we say, “Duty is ours; results are God’s.” Let us not grow weary in doing good, remembering that “in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9)

You have given us an enormous opportunity to do great good in order to counter great evil. We are unworthy to be chosen for such a time as this. May we continue in your strength by your Spirit as we recommit our nation, states, and individual lives to you for your glory.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

For our future,
